발리오스 서코스와 남코스는 전장이 그리 긴 편이 아닙니다. 이로 인해 많은 골퍼들이 거리에 대한 부담을 덜고 쉽게 생각할 수 있지만, 바로 그 지점이 함정이 될 수 있습니다. 실제로 라운드를 진행해 보면 드라이버 티샷을 제한하는 홀들이 꽤 많습니다. 거리가 많이 나가는 골퍼라면 드라이버를 잡았을 때 낙구 지점이 좁아지거나 막창이 날 위험이 있으므로, 우드나 아이언을 활용한 전략적인 티샷이 필수적입니다. 무조건 드라이버를 잡고 지르는 급한 선택은 대형 사고로 이어지기 쉽습니다.

당일 오전 티오프를 하신다면 그린 스피드의 변화에 완벽히 대처해야 합니다. 전반 홀 동안에는 이슬과 잔여 물기 때문에 그린이 다소 무겁고 느리게 반응합니다. 이 시기에는 과감한 퍼팅이 유효하지만, 진짜 위기는 후반에 찾아옵니다. 햇볕이 나고 물기가 마르면서 후반 코스에서는 그린 스피드가 급격하게 올라갑니다. 전반의 터치감에 익숙해진 상태로 후반에 돌입하면 거리감을 상실해 쓰리퍼트를 범하기 쉽습니다. 홀마다 그린 표면의 건조 상태를 파악하고 세심하게 감각을 조율하는 것이 스코어를 지키는 핵심입니다.

 

다행히 페어웨이의 잔디 밀도와 그린의 잔디 상태는 매우 훌륭하게 관리되어 있었습니다. 디봇 자국도 잘 정돈되어 있어 샷을 할 때 잔디 상태로 인한 불이익은 거의 없었습니다. 발리오스 CC에서 최악의 라운드를 피하려면, 장타에 대한 욕심을 내려놓고 철저하게 쪼개어 가는 코스 매니지먼트에 집중하시길 권장합니다.

Balios CC, located in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do, is widely recognized for its excellent accessibility and pristine course maintenance. I recently played an 18-hole round covering the West and South courses. Based on the layout and green conditions of the day, here is a practical guide to avoiding costly mistakes and navigating this strategic course effectively.

The West and South courses at Balios CC are not particularly long. While this might lead some golfers to underestimate the difficulty, that assumption can be a dangerous trap. In reality, there are several holes where using a driver off the tee is highly restricted. Long hitters face the risk of running out of fairway or finding narrow landing zones if they blindly opt for the driver. To prevent disastrous big numbers, it is wiser to rely on a fairway wood or long iron for tee shots, ensuring a safe position for the second shot.

Although the overall course difficulty is moderate, the layout features clever hazards designed to penalize careless play. The most notable obstacles are the bunkers strategically placed right in the middle of the fairways. Ignoring these landing-zone hazards can easily land your ball in deep sand with high lips, costing you valuable strokes.
