써닝포인트CC 라운딩 후기

경기도 용인시 처인구 백암면에 위치한 써닝포인트CC는 2012년에 개장한 18홀 대중제 골프장입니다. 세계적인 골프 코스 설계가이자 디자인 그룹인 다이 디자인 그룹(Dye Designs Group)의 철학을 바탕으로 조성되었으며, 썬 코스와 포인트 코스로 이루어져 있습니다. 특히 매년 하반기 KLPGA 투어 메이저급 정규 대회인 KG 레이디스 오픈이 열리는 토너먼트 코스로 대중에게 널리 알려져 있습니다. 공식 토너먼트 코스임에도 불구하고 수도권 대중제 골프장 중 합리적인 그린피 정책을 유지하고 있어 골퍼들 사이에서 가성비와 접근성이 뛰어난 명문 코스로 평가받습니다.

 

 

이번 라운딩에서 확인한 전반적인 잔디 상태와 코스 관리는 역시 프로 대회를 정기적으로 치러내는 구장답게 매우 훌륭했습니다. 페어웨이 잔디 밀도가 촘촘하고 디봇 관리도 깔끔하게 이루어져 있어 샷을 할 때 손맛과 타구감이 뛰어났습니다. 조경과 주변 시야도 잘 정돈되어 있어 전반적인 라운딩 환경은 쾌적했습니다.

 

다만 한 달 안으로 다가온 KLPGA KG 레이디스 오픈 대회를 앞두고 있는 시점이라 토너먼트 코스 세팅 및 잔디 보호 작업이 진행 중이었습니다. 일반 내장객용 티박스가 평소보다 상당히 앞쪽으로 당겨져 있었고, 그린 역시 잔디 생육과 대회 당일 스피드 확보를 위해 보수적으로 관리하며 아끼는 느낌이 강했습니다.

 

 

전장이 전반적으로 짧아진 탓에 긴 클럽으로 시원하게 티샷을 공략하기보다는 정교한 랜딩 지점 설정과 거리 컨트롤이 강제되었습니다. 티박스가 앞으로 당겨지면서 해저드나 페어웨이 벙커 등 트러블 요소가 드라이버 낙구 지점에 정확히 걸치게 되어 티샷에서 오히려 클럽 선택의 압박과 코스 매니지먼트의 난이도가 한층 높아졌습니다.

 

 

KLPGA 공식 토너먼트 코스다운 뛰어난 잔디와 가성비를 갖추었으나, 대회 준비로 짧아진 전장이 오히려 정교한 티샷 전략을 요구했던 라운딩이었습니다.

 

 

Sunning Point Country Club in Yongin is a renowned 18-hole public golf course that opened in 2012, based on the design philosophy of Dye Designs Group. Consisting of the Sun and Point courses, it is widely recognized as the host venue for the annual KLPGA Tour KG Ladies Open. Despite its championship pedigree, the club offers reasonable green fees, earning a solid reputation for excellent value and accessibility in the greater Seoul area.

The overall turf conditions across the fairways and tee boxes were superb, fully reflecting the standards of an active professional tournament venue. The fairway density was thick and well-maintained, delivering clean turf contact and satisfying ball striking throughout the round.

However, with the KLPGA tournament approaching in less than a month, the club was actively preserving the course. Tee markers were moved significantly forward for regular visitors, and the greens were clearly being managed conservatively to protect the grass ahead of tournament week.

The shortened overall distance actually increased the tactical difficulty off the tee. Rather than hitting driver freely, precise distance control and conservative target selection were required, as fairway bunkers and hazards came directly into play at standard landing zones.

Sunning Point CC delivered exceptional turf quality and great value as a KLPGA venue, though the shortened tee setup ahead of tournament week demanded heightened precision off the tee.
